Primary responsibilities include understanding the customer’s needs, communicating the needs, collaborating with HBS’ technical staff in the delivery of solutions, performing quality assurance activities, training, and implementation coordination.
Your accomplishments will include improving customer workflow, information availability and/or profitability through the use of technology.
As a Business Consultant, you’ll be highly visible, interacting with individuals of all levels throughout HBS as well as our client organizations.

Essential Functions

  • Presales support:
    • Meet with customers in order to understand their needs and budgetary requirements.
    • Coordinate additional internal and external resources, as needed, to provide expert input with respect to solution recommendations and estimates to meet the customer’s needs.
    • Convey customer requirements with HBS’ lead architects in order to design, estimate, and propose a solution.
    • Write proposals utilizing templates, examples, and mentorship.
    • Mentor assistance with initial scoping, proposals, and coordination of resources during the presales cycle.
    • Coordinate the proposal delivery to sales.
    • Maintain a good relationship with sales representatives.
    • Educate sales on current trends and HBS’ offerings.
 
  • Project Delivery:
    • Analyze customer business needs and develop business requirements to address these needs.
    • Strong ability to lead customers through the requirements process with multiple techniques including decomposition, prototyping, current state / target state mapping, and other techniques.
    • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs
    • Write clear and concise feature specifications.
    • Utilize HBS’ project tools and standards for project execution. Foster agile principles and methods for requirements gathering.
    • Effectively communicate project statuses with team and management.
    • Work with pre-established subcontractors, communicating requirements and coordinating schedules.
    • Participate in the development and execution of test plans.
    • Participate in implementation planning and execution.
    • Prepare training materials and provide training to customers and project team members.
 
  • Actively participate in professional communities, community forums, groups related to technology solution(s) supported by HBS.
  • Actively participate in the continued review and update of HBS’ standard methodologies in order to gain efficiencies and improve communications both within HBS and with HBS’ customers.
  • Interact with all levels of employees and management.
  • On occasion, travel, up to 25% of your time, may be required to service customers.

Skills & Abilities

Education
  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree (four year college or university) in Business or I.T. related discipline
 
Experience
  • Required: 6+ years related experience performing software analysis and requirements gathering
  • Required: Experience implementing public facing websites or internal intranets leveraging content management systems (CMS) or Microsoft SharePoint
  • Preferred: Quality Assurance experience implementing software systems
  • Preferred: Expertise in Professional Services or similar client facing roles in a client / vendor relationship
 
Computer Skills
  • Required: Basic knowledge of website build concepts such as URL, domains, CMS tools, DNS, CSS, responsive design, etc.
  • Required: Strong skills with Microsoft Office 365 products including (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, Skype, SharePoint)
  • Preferred: SQL query expertise
 
Certifications and Licenses
  • Preferred: Certified Business Analyst Professional or similar certification
