Security Consulting Engineer

This role will primarily focus on advising on security technical architecture as well as performing internal and external oriented security assessments and incident response for our customers.  These assessments range from deep technical security assessments, to social engineering, to broad based security posture assessments. From a technical perspective, this will involve the use of both commercial and custom built tools.  The types of tools include Vulnerability Scanners, Penetration kits (metasploit, backtrack, kali, SET, etc), IDS/IPS, Firewall, DLP and wireless technology, as well as Linux and Windows core tools and Virtualization platforms.  Additionally, this role will work with the Information Security Officer to develop additional assessment capabilities.
 
The secondary aspect of this role will be in the area of security incident response.  While limited, typically this comes about when an assessment we are doing indicates compromise, or a customer engages us based on suspicious activity.  Many times this involve log reviews, malware analysis, or forensic acquisition of evidence so it can be analyzed by someone else at a later date.
 

 


Essential Functions

  • Work as a member of the HBS Security team that provides consultative and proactive security related support to Heartland’s account base.
 
  • Obtain knowledge on other technologies, as directed by customer demand.
 
  • Provide sales consultants and fellow Engineers with design assistance, review, validation, and optimization of security technologies and solutions.
 
  • Contribute to product selection and research, configuration standards and best practices and educate our sales teams on these products and services so that they can sell them.
 
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere as both a leader and contributor as assigned.  At all times maintaining a professional and respectful demeanor.
 
  • Cross-training/Mentoring of other Heartland employees.
 
  • Project management. HBS is awarded many large projects. The Consulting Engineer, in many cases, is not only responsible for the installation of solutions but is also responsible for its design and management.

Skills & Abilities

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree (four year college or university) - Required
    • CISSP or other current industry standard certifications in areas of security expertise - Required
 
  • Experience:
    • Five to Seven years of related experience - Preferred
