Dynamics GP End of Life: Plan Your Transition

  • HBS ERP Team
  • Updated: January 2026
Microsoft Dynamics GP End of Life

If you're using Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains), the clock is ticking. Microsoft has announced that Dynamics GP will reach its end of life on December 31, 2029.

Dynamics GP security patching will end on April 30, 2031.

HBS remains committed to supporting Dynamics GP users throughout this lifecycle —we understand that a transition to a new solution takes time, and while 2029 might seem far away, now is the best time to begin planning for what comes next and how you can get there with as little interruption to your business operations as possible.

Dynamics GP End of Life and Support Dates

When software goes end of support—or end of life (EOL)—it means it will no longer be updated. Microsoft has confirmed that no new updates will be released after September 30, 2029.

Dynamics GP Timeline

    • End of Support for Dynamics GP > December 31, 2029.
    • Final Security Patches for Dynamics GP > April 30, 2031.

After December 31, 2029, Dynamics GP will no longer receive updates, fixes, or regulatory changes. After April 30, 2031, security patching stops entirely.

Running an ERP without security updates is not a neutral decision. It increases audit exposure, cyber risk, and operational fragility.

Bridge to the Cloud 3 (BTC3): A Major Migration Incentive

Starting January 1, 2026, Microsoft is launching Bridge to the Cloud 3 (BTC3), replacing the prior BTTC2 offer.

This promotion creates a meaningful financial incentive for GP customers to move sooner rather than later.

    • Discount applies for a fixed 3-year term
    • Enrollment window: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2027

Preparing for the Transition Away from Dynamics GP

A successful ERP transition isn’t just about replacing one software with another; it’s about ensuring your business operations continue seamlessly. Here’s what you should consider:

    1. Evaluate Your Current—and Future—ERP Needs: Take stock of what Dynamics GP does for your business. What are the critical functions? What challenges have you encountered? An ERP partner can work closely with you to assess your current system’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as prepare for future growth or changes to your organization’s ERP needs.
    2. Explore Alternatives: Look into other ERP solutions that could meet your needs. Dynamics 365 Business Central is Microsoft’s flagship SMB ERP product—and the top recommendation of our HBS ERP Team.

Business Central offers a cloud-based platform with modern features that could enhance your business operations—eliminating the need to purchase and maintain physical infrastructure to support your ERP solution.

In some cases, moving to Business Central will also eliminate the need for third-party services that you’re currently using with Dynamics GP. Additionally, Dynamics 365 Business Central offers better scalability, improved integration with Microsoft’s suite of products, and advanced analytics and reporting capabilities.

    3. Plan Your Migration: Moving to a new ERP system involves data migration, user training, and potential business process changes.
    4. Maximizing Your Investment with Expert Support: Transitioning to a new ERP system is a significant undertaking. Working with an ERP expert like HBS can help you assess your needs, choose the right solution, and migrate with minimal disruption. Our ongoing support means you will continue to get the most out of your investment.
