Mount Prospect School District is in the business of teaching children. The IT department wants to focus on supporting staff and students, and work with Curriculum on driving the use of technology in the classrooms.

As with most K-12 School Districts’ IT departments, the challenge can be finding the right number of people for the size of the District, and the right personnel who have the soft skills to interact with staff/students and the technical skills set to manage servers, network infrastructure, cloud applications, backups, etc... It’s a tall task given the limited budget District’s have and career growth potential for an engineer.
Mount Prospect engaged with Heartland Business Systems in the summer of 2015 to fill a technology support need. The IT department focuses on building level classroom support and leans on HBS to support the technologies with complicated certifications tied to them, such as security, wireless, voice, servers, backups, and LAN/WAN. With the continued rollout of 1:1 devices and evolution of teacher and student engagement, Mount Prospect leaves the “behind the scenes” technology to the professionals.
HBS’s IT support for Mount Prospect is focused on a collaborative team approach. The HBS team provides point of contacts for escalations and issue resolution, and more importantly takes ownership of responsiveness and communication with Mount Prospect.
HBS provides 24/7 monitoring and alerts for both the District and HBS team. HBS provides backup support to the District’s IT team in situations where questions need to be answered and best practices come into the picture. HBS focuses on making sure the technology is accessible at all times, warranties with manufacturers are up to date, upgrades are planned accordingly and recommendations based on experience with other school districts continue to be communicated.
